I'd have to agree with you there -- there seems little similarity to the original. Mind you, the miniatures are probably about as close as I'd get to owning one.
See if you can find the one made by Maisto. (It maybe branded as "Ruff n Tuff") The proportions and the body lines are much closer to the original.
